In the Before Times we ran a website that was focused on the future—it was pretty optimistic. We did science, technology, skepticism, feminism, and general futurism.
But it’s 2025, and our optimism supplies down here in the Opinion Bunker? Well, they pretty much ran out years ago. When the Fourth Wave of the Culture Wars reached our doorstep, we didn’t have anywhere to go. Fun fact, readers: we actually (metaphorically) died. But recently our bodies have started to twitch again, pale, rotten fingers reaching out for the keyboard in the flickering LED light. Turns out a diet of social justice, furious outrage, and rainbow sprinkles doesn’t lengthen your life, just how grumpy you are when you come back from the dead.
Welcome to the post-apocalyptic landscape of the inside of our brains. What’s left of our arsenal consists of literary analysis, social studies, the reanimated corpse of irony, and a firm commitment to repeating the truth ad nauseum in a nauseatingly post-truth world.
We still believe that we can be wonderful. That we can be magnificent. That we can turn this shit around.
